Once upon a time, there lived a clever monkey on a big, fruit-laden jamun tree near a riverbank. The tree gave him sweet fruits to eat and shade to rest. He was happy and content.
One day, a crocodile swam up to the riverbank, tired and hungry. The monkey noticed him and said kindly,
A Dangerous Plan
One day, the crocodile took some fruits home for his wife. But she didn’t like them. Instead, she grew jealous of the monkey.
“He gives you fruits every day. He must have a sweet, juicy heart!” she said greedily.
“I want to eat his heart!”
The crocodile was shocked. “He’s my friend!”
But the wife insisted: “Bring me his heart — or don’t come back!”
Sadly, the crocodile agreed. The next day, he invited the monkey for a ride across the river.
“Come meet my wife. She’s heard so much about you!”
The monkey happily climbed on the crocodile’s back. But halfway across, the crocodile told the truth.
“My wife wants to eat your heart, and I have no choice!”

The monkey was shocked — but he stayed calm and clever.
“Oh, dear friend! You should have told me earlier! I left my heart on the tree!” he said.
“If you take me back, I’ll give it to you.”

A Robbery in the Palace
One day in Emperor Akbar’s court, a merchant came running in.
“Your Majesty!” he cried, “Someone has stolen gold from my house last night!”
The Emperor called his guards and quickly caught all the people who had been near the merchant’s home.
But no one confessed. There was no evidence, and the thief was hiding among them.
Akbar turned to his wisest minister and said,
“Birbal, can you help us find the real thief?”
Birbal smiled and replied, “Yes, Jahanpanah. Leave it to me.”

Spurning her daughters' warnings, she plotted to pluck all his feathers at once
When the swan returned, she seized and pulled out every golden feather in one go
To her horror, the plucked feathers turned ordinary white—they held value only when gifted willingly
Weakened and betrayed, the swan cried out in sorrow and agony

Once upon a time, near the sacred banks of the Ganges, a gentle holy man named Yadnyavalkya lived in a peaceful ashram. One serene morning, as he bathed and prayed, an eagle carrying a tiny mouse flew overhead. The mouse fell from its grasp and landed in the sage’s hands
Seeing the trembling creature, the sage’s heart overflowed with compassion. He placed the mouse on a fragrant banyan leaf and, with his spiritual power, transformed it into a beautiful baby girl. The sage and his wife had always dreamed of a child, and so they lovingly raised the girl as their own daughter
Years passed, and the girl grew into a graceful and intelligent maiden. When she reached marriageable age, her adoptive parents wished for the best husband imaginable. First, they approached the mighty Sun. But on meeting him, the girl said, “He’s far too hot and harsh for me.” The Sun humbly acknowledged that the Clouds could obscure him
Next came the Clouds. But she found them gloomy and stormy. They pointed instead to the powerful Wind . The Wind proved too wild, and it recommended the steadfast Mountain . But the Mountain, too rough and imperious, was rejected. Finally, the Mountain spoke of a far humbler power: the mouse that gnawed through its rock
At once, her heart soared: mouse was just like her in soul. “Bring me that mouse,” she pleaded. With a gentle incantation, the sage restored her to her original form—a mouse—and she married the clever little mouse. They made a cozy home in a tiny burrow at the mountain’s base and lived happily ever after

Once upon a tranquil evening in the vast Vijayanagara kingdom, a dreaded gang of thieves plagued the townsfolk. Even the guards could not catch them. The city chief, desperate, turned to the wise and witty Tenali Raman for help.
Tenali accepted. The next day, he whispered a ruse to his wife: spread the word that they possessed a bag filled with gold coins. It didn’t take long for the gossip to reach the ears of the clever thieves .
Late that night, Tenali heard rustling in the backyard. There was no wind—just thieves lurking. Smiling at his wife's gasp, he announced loudly, “Oh dear, I fear the thieves are here. Let's hide all our wealth in a big box and drop it into the well—water is safe from robbers.” Then, pretending to sleep, they waited.
Drawn by the bait, the thieves crept to the well and hoisted the heavy box inside. Soon, one whispered, “How will we lift it back up? It’s too heavy!” Their leader confidently suggested draining the well, so they could easily fetch it.
All through the night, they emptied the well. At dawn, exhausted but eager, they hauled the box from the mud—only to discover it held nothing but stones and pebbles.
At that moment, Tenali called out softly, "Thank you, friends, for watering my garden—you did my work for me!” In stunned silence, the thieves realized they’d been tricked. Just then, the chief’s guards burst in and captured them all.
News of Tenali’s cunning—and the thieves’ folly—traveled far and wide, earning him great respect for his quick thinking

The other, however, bore a crack and arrived home each day only half-full, its water lost along the rocky path.Ashamed and dejected, the cracked pot believed it was a burden and felt worthless, unable to perform as it was intended. One day, it confided in the bearer, apologizing for its shortcomings and lamenting the wasted efforts. Gently, the bearer directed its attention to the roadside where bright wildflowers bloomed only on the side where the cracked pot dripped its water. With a warm smile, he explained that every drop lost had nurtured these flowers, which now graced his home and pleased his master.
